Global warming is strongly related to climate change. This kind of phenomena affects Earth’s average temperature, raising it higher and higher. From 1960, until now, the average temperature of our planet`s surface has been rising from year to year. Indeed, multiple lines of scientific evidence show that the entire climate system is warming up. Most of this additional heat is stored into oceans, provoking ice to melt. Despite all the negative effects that global warming has to our planet, it also changes the way it wobbles into space. NASA brings new evidences about how the North Pole has changed. It has melted and it has moved from its usual position.

Global warming happens due to what is known as greenhouse effect. Let’s imagine our whole planet as a giant greenhouse. The role of glass or Plexiglas panels is attributed to the ozone layer and the amount of gases that we produce everyday to fulfill our needs and our desires. Ozone layer is the good guy; it protects the Earth from ultraviolet sunrays that may cause several injuries on our skin. Despite that, ozone layer lets the heat and the rest of light specter to get inside, until it reaches Earth’s surface. A part of the heat is observed and the other part becomes reflected. When light reflects, it changes its wavelength. Reflected light along with reflected heat has now a different wavelength and this time it is impossible to get through the ozone layer. A similar effect happens inside a greenhouse. Glass panels have similar properties as ozone layer, regarding to reflected light. That is why when we enter a greenhouse, we always find a warmer place. The warmth of the sun is not big enough to melt the pole’s ice. Although the sun has become slightly hotter over thousands of years, its heat is in a level that has anything to do with our concern about global warming. The amount of evaporated gases all over the world is what makes the difference; for worse. These gases have created a thick layer under the ozone layer, causing a double negative side effect. From one side, it weakens the ozone layer, making it thinner. This phenomena increases the risk of holes inside ozone layer. These holes would let UV rays to enter the Earth. On the other hand the layer of gases gets thicker every year, forcing the heat to stay near Earth’s surface. That means that the heat will stay so close that it will be absorbed; mostly by oceans. All these cause the ice to melt and the average of ocean`s depth to rise. Now icebergs are being created near the poles and the frozen ocean is getting smaller. That is a huge warning to our species, since we are the ones who have the ability to make a change; a change for good this time.

Another interesting effect of global warming is related to the way Earth wobbles. According to NASA, melting ice sheets are changing the distribution of weight on Earth, causing the North Pole and the Earth`s wobble, called polar motion, to change course. This phenomena is only of a scientific interest, since it is nothing to worry about. Earth will continue to wobble; also it will proceed on its orbit around the Sun; until one day Earth will crash into the Sun. But that is also nothing to worry about, considering that this is probably going to happen after billions of years. Until then, Earth, with much certainty, will be a dead planet and humankind will cease to exist; unless we are smart enough into finding a new home. As long as we want to live and to evolve, we will survive.
